There are a stack of companies that are selling crawler transfer gears for Kicks/trackers. either in 4.24:1 or 4.4:1  Should I shop for price are is one a better gear set?  Do any of them require grinding of the alloy transfer case?

OK, I can't speak about the TrailTough set, but I can tell you this about Calmini vs. Rocky Road.

Calmini install requires you to file some aluminum from the inside of the case.  It took me about a half hour, with a hand file.

On the RRO set, they want you to send them your transfer case, and they send you one, which has been hogged out, and welded over.  If you don't send them your xfer case, they want something like an additional $150 core charge.

I put the Trail Tough set in mine and it took a little shaving in the case to fit the large gear, just like Calmini I imagine. The price was way cheaper than Calmini and they were in my hands in Canada in 3 days.

RRO's are out of production right now and they say they probably won't be having any made in the near future due to few requests.

I'll be getting the trail tough gears at some point soon.  I didn't realize the case had to be grinded though.  Does anyone know if there's an install write up on these?

I can't be CERTAIN, but Steve Kramer at Calmini tends to set up relationships with his suppliers, where they DO NOT produce the same product for any of his competitors.  Take the 5.83 R&P's.  He had them made by Richmand Gear - then something happened that soured that relationship, but there's no WAY you can get a 5.83 set out of Richmond Gear directly.

I have never had any problems with my Calmini set, and I've wheeled the snot out of it.

In the install thread the CJ linked to it states that you only have to grind a bit of the case, I was thinking that it would require a hole right through.     Not so bad after all.

I guess I will just shop for a good price.

Just a little grinding in the one ridge in the case but no welding, was pretty easy actually

I"ve had good luck with the trail tough set so far.
We are building a doubler on the back to a dana 300 too so we can have a twinstick aet-up. It really didnt take much clearancing to make them fit.

I've been looking at gearing for trackicks, and kind of have a related question. In sami's, the new gears change the high and low range. With trackicks, do they have gear sets that do this?

Is that why people do the dual transfer cases? or... is that just to get an insane final drive?

It's both.  It's the only way to reduce your high range, and then you have more low range options, and a crazy crawl ratio if you need it.
