OK, Ive just read 9 pages of archives on wheel offset and think Ive made up my mind. Call me conserveative, but I like to keep as much of my wheel and tire combination inside the wheel well as possible. I like the stock offset, or very close to it.  Lets just say I want to keep  the crap under the Tracker , not all over it. That said, I'm currently running 31x9.5 Swamper Tsl's on stock rims and they work just fine off road. Could I get a 10.5x31 street /at tire on the stock rim width safely? Reason I ask is I've got a line on a set of four 10.5x31 at's that are almost new for a really good price and am thinking of using them for all but my rock and mud wheeling. I'm sure they'll run a bunch smoother and quieter than  than the swampers on the highway. I've also got a set of freshly painted stock rims in gloss black so I can have two sets of wheels, one for serious offroading, one for everything else. Opinions?

You could do it but even I, and I like narrow wheels, am going to tell you that the stock wheels are awfully narrow for a 31x10.5R15.  That's a 15x5.5 wheel with a 5" wider tire.  That's a lot for a sidewall to stretch not to mention you'd be rubbing the frame a good bit when turning.

Take a look around, someone has to be selling some 15x7 or 8 wheels off of an old Jeep or Ford or something.  I'm getting a set of wheels that way, off of someone's old F150.

Silver is currently running 31-10.50 BFG AT's on stock sammy wagon wheels and they work just fine at 20 PSI... Just don't expect to corner hard without problems! LOL!

I loved the look on the guy's face at les schwab when I had them dismount 32x11.50 canyon climbers from my stock samurai  wheels.
He asked my who mounted them when I told him that I did, he had the most dumb founded look.
but 11.50 will fit on a stock rim and you can run at 0 to 1 psi and not pop the bead.  well at least it didn't when I drove it from where it was parked back into the shop that way.

  Thanks guys, I almost talked myself into some nice alloys. Then  I found out I had to change all my studs out because the alloy castings are too thick for the stock mounting studs. PITA for sure, and i'm not road racing it so the stockers it is!

I just recieved the exact same tires you have.. the 31x9.50 tsl radials, but i dont like the rubbing on the frame so i think im going to mount them on some new wheels.  What backspacing do you think would give me the last hassle for fender rubbing?  I have a 2'' body lift and clear the swampers on the stock rims fine, but i still want to avoid the rubbing on the frame.  Would i need more of a lift with an aftermarket wheel or is there a choice backspacing?

If you change the backspace, and move the wheels out an inch or so, you won't be rubbing on the front, but the tires will stick out of the fender wells, and depending where you live, you may have to use fender flares to stay within the law. I just don't turn it to full lock.

I just orderd a set of 15x7 rockcrawler rims with a 2.75" backspace.  I figure a good backspace runs from 2.5" to 3".  If you don't want the tires sticking out to far go with a 3" backspace.
