whats the best mods for my 1.3?

whats the best mods for my 1.3 its in a suzuki samurai it has 32's right now but i want to go with 33's or 4's

A 1.6  ;D

OK, I'm kidding.  A hedder and a carb are what I might start off with, unless your carb is running really good.

But 33's would be more of a gearing issue than a motor one.  I'm running 36's with the stock 1.3 and I can still use 5th on occasion.

Actually, the rig runs great after some minor motor work, and getting my Pony carb tuned.  I'm almost rethinking the 1.6 swap I have waiting till after the Melt (I said almost)

Well, I know how often I get to use 4th gear on my 410 with the 33's on, and it only goes 45 anyway...

If I do an engine swap, I want to go diesel, but then I would have to redo all of my gearing to deal with a low rpm engine.

Here's what I'd do... more or less in order of importance:
- Full tuneup + compression test (plugs, wires, air filter, cap, rotor, oil change, timing check, valve adjustment, full bottle of UTP on next fillup). Kit costs about $70 from Hawk, and UTP is about $3.00
- New gearing ($4-800 depending on how much work you're willing to do yourself)
- Header + 2" exhaust ($2-300)
- Cam ($100-200 depending on what RPM you want your power to peak at)

If you get the right header and cam, you can bring them with you if you choose to go to a 1.6L down the road. Gearing is SO important - even if you go to a 1.6L - a stressed motor prematurely wears quickly.

If I were you, I'd STRONGLY consider what tires you want to go with. If you have your heart set on 33+" tires - you may want to STRONGLY consider going diesel. If you do the diesel swap, you actually DON'T want to change your gearing at all!!! The diesels LOVE LOVE LOVE running at low RPM - even on the highway. 33/34" tires and stock gearing are PERFECT for a diesel.

The next best thing to gears, is do a valve job on your head and install 1.6 valves in your head,  I've done the header and weber and cam on several sammy's, and when you do the valves, you will really notice the difference!

Do you need new valve seats or can you recut the stock ones?

I PERSONALLY would stay away from K&N. It doesn't give you much more power (and NONE at bottom end), but it lets in a HELL OF A LOT more particulates and bad things in your engine. A lot of people that say "WOW - I noticed a difference" had a 5 year old dirty filter anyway... of course a new filter's going to improve things  ::) Anyway - there's people that will disagree with me on this, but I'm not a big fan of K&N at all.

Underdrive pulley I would do - but - I can't find anyone that sells them anymore :(

I like the K&N style filters myself, but I would go for one of the new Synthentics instead of the old oil and cotton based setups.  They have the same particle count as the paper filters but you can clean them with water.

As for the power, I'm not sure you get a lot more but on larger engines I have noticed an improvement in throttle responce.  My trail Zuki has too low of gears to worry about a little extra HP.  It's not going fast no matter what I do.  :P

any machine shop could cut your seats and install the new valves.  Might even do some porting.  THe local machine shop here, charges me $150 to cut the new seats, install new guides and new valves and mild port job.

put a 1.6 in that would be your best mod
black 89 sidekick toyota 22re L52 5speed trans w/ duel t cases. toyota axles w/coil springs 4 link double triangle 3 link front, 5.29 r&p, lockers ,35x12.5 tires, rock rails ,custom plate steal bumpers, killer xm sounds ext ext ext

  Just put in TT's freshly rebuilt  1.3l engine withe bigger valves and flat top pistons. I run 33" tires with 5.38 gears and a 6.5 t-case. and have noticed that the engine pulls better at mid to high rpm's. If I wanted more speed or on road endurance, I may swap my 4:1 tcase back in and haul ass.
