What year xl7 front housing in a kick
« on: December 16, 2005, 03:09:22 PM »
I want to do the heavy duty build up but I'm not shure what year the housing comes in. I know I need a 99 g/v 5speed 3rd. I will be using the tt front locker/carrier.

I knew I had seen the answer somewhere.  Here you go.

The earlier XL.7's with automatics still had aluminum housings with a steel 3rd member, with the manuals having steel housing and 3rd member. The housing and third members were upgraded to steel in 2003 for both tranny combos

If you're unsure of the metal, try to stick a magnet on it.

Good Luck, Eric

there is an article on the conversion here at ZukiWorld.  It describes which year to look for.

If you can't find it, go to Ack's FAQ (use the link in my signature) and do a forum search for XL7 for a link to the article.

The XL7 has a different third member mount, a GV one would be an easier fit as it is a straight swap. The steel casings were fitted to the V6s.

There is a GSP part number "somewhere" here on the forum.  ;)  If you're going to get a used one take a magnet along with you that will make it easy to tell. Here's what I believe to be true... The first two model years had both aluminum and steel. The autos were aluminum and the manuals were steel. In 2003 all front housing were steel. You are talking of the center section housing and not the 3rd member housing, right?

XL.7 3rd member housing:
