An 82 is a very early model. There are quite a number of differences. You'll have to make new engine mounts. Props have different flanges though I believe you can swap them, maybe someone else can confirm this. The holes in the floor will probably need enlarging too as the levers are in different places. The 413 transmission with the 410 tcase will have lower gearing too, good if you are on bigger tyres not so good if you aren't. You'll need to fit a 413 exhaust and carb, not sure about ignition my 83 has points.

I owned an '82 for awhile. It was really similar to the all the later models including the Samurai except it had that cool Japaneeze style metal dash. I'd agree with Rhinoman with the engine mounts for sure. You'd have to make an new jack shaft too. The shifter holes are the same. Other than that, I think it would work provided you have either all the stock stuff including wiring or converted your 1.3 to a weber.

Good luck, Eric

You may have better luck asking your question here...
http://www.rhinoriders.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi
It's a British board, not too long ago a guy did that swap.  I'm not sure what year model SJ410 he had, but pretty much all he had to do was move the motor mounts.
There's a guy on the Off-Road.com board who lives in Spain who did the 1.6 swap and I just got my 1.6 8 valve from UPS and I'm about to do that swap into my 85 SJ410.  Hopefully it will all go smoothly, I plan on taking pics and doing a write-up.  , so.....wish me luck!!!!

Well Rhinoriders.com is the club I belong to, certainly not my site, I do have my own though. Mort-Man, not sure about your swop could be a lot easier but the change over year was 1985. I found out about the differences when I bought a buggy style body for my 84 model.  Dropped the body on and it only fitted on the 4 corners with gaps all along the rest of it. Then I found out the gear lever surrounds wouldn't fit, then it just kept getting worse. It looks pretty much the same until you start looking hard. The frame on the later SJ chassis is a bit straighter giving a touch more ground clearance. The usual give away between early and late models is the flanges on the props. Early models are square flanges. I think 83 models still had drum brakes.

Try posting on the following boards as well, they are both clubs started by Rhinoriders members who wanted something a little more focused on their area:
