Flat Towing with Locker, Ok or not ok??
« on: April 16, 2005, 04:09:28 AM »
I just got done putting my locker in the grean meanie.
I was wondering if there is anything I should watch out for since I flat tow it to the trails.

Side Note is it normal when starting out for the rear axle to torque one way or the other .

Thanks

I think it's ok,

We flat towed last year all the way to moab and back with a lock rite. That's 1200 miles round trip. We didn't have any problems.

EDIT: And yes, it's normal.

This sounds like good advice.

I ALWAYS drop my rear D-shaft when flat towing my rig. and if you leave your steering unlocked and put a bungee around yout steering wheel, it works very nice!!
OH, and I have a locker and so far so good (knock on wood)

put alot of air in your rear tires to keep the pulling down, i.e. 32 psi. then down to 20 or below to drive it.

No problem flat towing with a locker, they release when going around a corner, it really shouldn't be any different than with an open diff.  I do recomend dropiing the drive shaft, IMO it is not worth the extra risk and wear to leave it attached.
