I need to do some body repair which I have never done before. What do I need to do to repair these two places ?doesn't need to be professional looking, just look decent.

First you need to sand all the rust out. Otherwise it will just keep coming back. You can pick up a cheap bodyfiller kit (bondo) from AutoZone or homedepot. Fill it and Sand it smooth. That would be the easiest and cheapest way.

Do I need to remove all the old bondo or can I just chip out the loose stuff and fill in the part that has came out ?

Get rid of the lose stuff for sure, you can go over old bondo as long as it is solid. Here is a link that might help you out

grind down to bare metal pull your dents as close as you can get them (might have to remove door panel)  filler aka bondo  only sticks and STAYS  to bare metal as for your old filler get it gone your there anyways straighten your metal work there    your pic seems to indicate theres quite a bit there im in the collision business thats what id do its not that difficullt specially if you just thank about it (not being a smart|removethispart|@ss)  get your damage as close to where its suppose to be then use your filler to straighten the MNOR imperfections its not intended for sculpting   Remember your filler start with about an 80 gritpaper working your way to a higher numbered grit    my way is filler 80 grit it get your shape put into it   use a finishing glaze (sands alot easier)  hit it with 80 just to get the haze off then finish with 180  prime then 320 and paint it    make sure in your 180 step b4 prime your getting rid of ALL 80 grit scratches it will show in your paint job   hope this might help dnt be afraid to try man thats how we all learn the things we no   plus thats why were here to isnt it lol gd luck jd

I wonder why the previous owner did not pull the dents instead of filling them full of bondo ? Probably easier than pulling dents , just fill with bondo .
Question on Bondo , does all Bondo have fiberglass hair in it or is it just a certain type that has the fiberglass ?
All I can find at O'Reilly is what says "Bondo"  not with fiberglass or anything .
Just curious what to get.

Bondo brand bondo aint bad but id recommend rage gold go to a paint supply place you can buy just a qrt instead of the whole gal    I wldnt glass it

Bondo is a brand. The hairy stuff is short strand fiberglass, it's a great product. The smooth stuff is the finishing putty, you want to use this stuff as little as possible, it's meant to smooth off the rough look of the short strand. It sands off easier than short strand.
