Vitara Diesel BHP??

Hello, I wondered what the BHP off the Vitara diesel is.

Not sure you guys have a 2.0l Diesel kick/track

107.2 bhp at 4000rpm
200ft-lbs at 1750rpm

The old 1.9TD is considerably less

Yeah, 2.0L TD there is no N/A option and with so little power from the TD you can understand why. Lots of torque but the N/A 2L petrol makes 123bhp. If you use the turbo a lot it isn't going to be any cheaper to run than the petrol.

my underlining question was increase in power.

maybe a 2.0L with a SU carb on it.  I wonder if the bell housing is the same or might require an adapter.
or 2.0l engine and gearbox with the t case bolted to the back..

or bigger pistons in mine with a nice cam and su carb

Why not a 2Ltr with MPI it will always be better than a carb. I believe the bellhousing is different and the 2ltr is a hydraulic clutch so you can't just swap them over. The 2ltr would be a good conversion, lots of power and check out the gearing on a GV too. Higher ratio diffs and 16" wheels so with a 2ltr in an old style Vit you could run big tyres and stock R&Ps. If you get a 2Ltr let me know so I can take some measurements off it. I've already designed my new ECU with the input for the Crank Position Sensor and additional injector outputs in case I come across a reasonably priced 2ltr lump. Now just need to work out if the 1.6 bottom end will mate up with rest of the Jimny engine  ;D

Hi, I don't have a kick, but I have that engine in my GV. OK, it may seem that 110hp isn't a lot, but that torque can move you pretty fast. Cruising speed is easily 140 km/h (|removethispart|@3250 rpm), and there is no problem in slopes or going faster to overtake. If you need more power, there are tricks like changing the computer (heard of measured 135hp) or increase turbo pressure...
But anyway, I think stock is okay on power, the GV was never a racing car ::)

An adapter plate for the 2.0L engine to fit the stock gearbox seems the way forward,.

MPI would be god just the etc wires ecu blah blah , the way i treat mine lol..

Might have to see what the engines go for

Why not got for a different engine altogether, I'm considering a Ford zetec 2L with throttle bodies and programmable ecu, 180BHP+ with a internally standard engine.

Should be fun :o

GV engine shouldn't be too difficult to mate up with the stock 4wd transmission. If you mean twin DCOE throttle bodies then have you seen the prices they go for?? I've V6 Suzuki engines go for less than the price of those alone.

Theres no need to buy those DCOE throttle bodys,
all you need is some old DCOE carbs, i use them for the butterflys, cut and trim the float chamber etc away. machine some ali tubes for the injectors and tig weld them into the manifold job done.

As for GV 2000 engines i've not seen one in the UK for anything like sensible money

My dream swap would be a 2.5 ltr diesel from the VW Touareg. 174hp plus 360Nm of diesel torque ;D. Plus the manual six speed gearbox. With few modifications it can easily go to 200hp and loads of torque. Anyone like to try? ::)

For us over here a diesel would be nice as it tends to be wet and muddy.

I would rather pay out for an engine and try to increase power than pay for a set of R&Ps as to get them over here im looking at $800 plus the bearings to rebuild the diffs.

Might look at other cars.  

What about a suzuki Baleno 1.8L  I expect that block is simular to the 1.6

Failing all that I could see if i can bore mine out to say 17.50Litre and use an Su carb of a MG

I think you'll find the Baleno 1.8 is a small bore 2.0 and not a 1.6 derivative. As for big bores, well you can use MX5/Miata 78mm pistons but the piston pin is 1mm bigger so you will need to machine the rod to accommodate the bigger pin. It has been done with stock liners but I would suggest resleeving with thicker sleeves. The only piston I have found with the same piston pin diameter that may work with some machining to the piston top to get the right compression height is a Mitsubishi 1597cc 4G32 engine. Has 76.9mm pistons standard and has 0.5. 1.0 & 1.5mm oversize options

There is another option for your and my lack of the correct gearing or more power

engine and box from a siera or carlton or any RWD car mate it to a SJ transfer box for the 4wd=more power and lower gearing.

Have u any idea which needle your carb is running i've been thicking about an SU carb for a while.
