Using 1.6 head on a 1.3 block
« on: August 22, 2006, 05:53:13 PM »
whats up everyone,
I have been working on my 87` samurai and want to put a 1.6 head on my 1.3 block...  Can that be done or is it better to just drop the whole 1.6L in with the EFI.   Also I have a new cam and headers for my 1.3 and was wondering if I put the 1.6L head in will the can and header fit?  Hope for some help here...  any other tips will be greatly appriciated.  aloha from hawaii

i know some guy's that used a 1,3 top on the 1,6, so it should go the other way also.

but a 1,6 is a more potent engine, dont know if the exhaust fit

1.6 header fits a 1.3 and visa versa...heads are the same way...you will have less low end torque with a 1.6 head, but better top end... a 1.3 head on a 1.6 gives you better low end torque, worse top end speed... cam should fit, not 100%.

keep in mind that the 1,6 engine is 1" taller than the 1,3. ;)

also don't forget that the 1.3 head has the fuel pump in it, and the 1.6 does not.  So, you'll be needing a new fuel pump of some sort.

Headers will bolt on but the 1.6 has bigger ports than a 1.3 so you may lose some of the benefit. 1.3 camshaft may not fit a 1.6, there is a difference in length between some models, even if it does you need to check that there will be a performance gain over the stock 1.6 cam. The 1.3 carb is very restrictive on a stock 1.3 so you may not get any big performance gains without changing to a bigger carb, 1.6 inlet and manifold also has bigger ports.
UK carb model 1.6s have a fuel pump on the head  ;D

I'm doing the 1.6 8V with the 1.3 head and intake in my rig as soon as:

#1. my current motor dies (which that's probably not likely..lol)
#2. the summer wheeling seasion is over

plan on swapping in the 16v pistons from a 1.6l 16v into the 8v block if the 1.3l head is 16v

G13BB engine is the same as the Jimny, with the EFI it makes 80bhp - same as a 1.6 8V. Downside is that it is higher revving with less torque and max torque around 1000rpm further up the rev range. G13BB head on a 1.6 should be pretty good, I'd like to that to the Jimny eventually but the stock engine only has around 30k on it.

a stock G13B makes 100hp not 80. putting the G13B head on a 1.6l 16v block will give it more torque, turbo it will make it a torque monster!
