FRONT SPRING SWAP ADVICE?
« on: October 24, 2007, 09:07:45 PM »
I  didn't have to drive my 87 sami for very long to realize it was the roughest riding rig I've ever been in. It's tore apart in my shop now, I was gonna spruce it up but got carried away. I put a Sky spring over kit in it, and have been looking at the attachment points for the A.R.B. winch bumper, and I'm not impressed. So i've got this wild hair up my butt to lengthen the front frame rails, to create better bumper mounts / a place to mount a tow bar / and a spot for  future spring hanger mounts. So this is my question- what is the best/cheapest front spring fix, and how far forward will I need to move the front hangers when I get around to installing these springs? :( :(  I want to delete this confusing mess but it took me to long to write it :-[

Rear Springs up Front.  Moves your axle about 1.5" forward and softens up the ride.

Otherwise I would say go for a YJ spring conversion.

I made a set of folding front shackles, but you make a new set of shackle mounts.  The only problem is if you don't lift it past a standard Spring Over and put 33" tires on it you will probably rub on the front of your fender well.  It does fix the problem with rubbing on the rear of the fender though.

A 2" drive line spacer meant I didn't have to replace the drive shaft.  You can see some shots of it on http://picasaweb.google.com/CrawlersNW
