Gang,
Along the topic of recover equipment I wanted to get a general feel for what else people bring on their offroading trips in their ‘trail boxes’.
I usually bring the following;

Spare tire w/wrench
Hi-Lift jack
Shovel
Chain Saw
Tow strap
Tow chains
Tire chains
Fire extinguisher
Jumper cables
Air compressor
Lighter fluid and matches
Blanket
Drinking water
Qt of engine oil
Misc. tools; wrenches, screwdrivers, etc
Misc. parts; hub, CVs, bolts, duct-tape, chewing gum

What do you bring?

On large group runs we assign vehicles to bring certain things (so everyone is not overloaded). On smaller runs (2-3 vehicles) I bring:
-3 tow straps (different lengths)
-cooler-o- food and drinks
-craftsman portable tool kit (140 pc. I think)
-high lift
-and a realy hot supermodel that buys all of the gas and pulls the winch cable if I get stuck, and likes to mud restle, and  ;D :o....(oh yea, that must be my imaginary friend :P

I think that I carry everything but the kitchen sink  8) there are alot of clubs online that have a page for stuff to carry like californiajeeper.com has a good one, it is hard for me to find some one to go with me during the week because there working so it is just me and the dog most of the time! so I make sure I take a first aid kit water and snacks and allways a cell phone with numbers in it, spare batteries and a 12v cord for it, a gps to let them find me real quick if they need to, and a cb radio for the logging roads that I run here so you don't get hit by a logging truck! and last but not least a Ham radio so I run lite so I wont get stuck (samurai |removethispart|@ 2375 lbs.)last year I was running behind snow mobiles in 7' or better of powder with my all terrains but I take a friend of mines number that has a twelve passenger snow cat  :) other wise I would have to use an air crane if I got stuck  :'(

In my GV, all that stuff and then some, as my GV often doubles as the "support rig" carrying Sammy parts.  It's main intention was to have a riug I could go backcounty at Moab with and feel prepared and equipped should a disaster or other calamity occu with my ol' lady and kid on board.

At first, I built my Sammy to trail ride and carried EVERYTHING, including 5L of petro and 5 Liters of potable water.  Felt all warm and cozy knowing "I'm prepared for almost any disaster".

But my Sammy is intended for rockcrawling now and much less trail ride.  I want it to be NeUROC Legends certifiable, .  I carry nothing but me and a spotter.  I don't even want a spare, hence support rigs that can go back to the tow rig and get a spare part or tire.  Light weight is everything for Zook drivetrain survival.

It's travel distance limit would be parallel to the support it has from the GV.  For much of the my region, you never do travel more than 60 mins from your tow rig, if that.

Basically what's mentioned above plus baling wire, a come-along, brake fluid, gear oil, Form-a-gasket RTV, vacuum and fuel line, multimeter, electrical wire, extra fan and timing belts, welding sticks.  I also tow my Sammy to go wheeling, so I load the Explorer up with lots of tools, fluids etc.

I have a large ammo can bolted behind my rear seat. Inside I have:
All hand tools (sockets,wrenches, ect)
Tire repair kit
Fix a flat
WD-40
Starting fluid
Matches
Paper and shop rags
Bungie cords
Steering fluid
1 qt oil
Assorted box of nuts,bolts,hose clamps and some short sections of fuel line

Outside Ive got:
Hi-Lift
Assorted straps
Cooler with sandwiches and Powerade

At camp:
Heavy chains
Bead breaker and tire spoons
Gas grill (I dont like to rough it too much at camp  ;D)
Generator
Some power tools

I carry most of my shop but leave most of it where ever we camp.  I will be adding a air compresser, welder and winch someday.   Their is a list of the other stuff i bring in the other thred about this.   lata Stu

GOOD THING I'M NOT OUT WHEELING YET  :( .... I ONLY HAVE DUCT TAPE, JUMPER CABLES & A FEW TOOLS ABOARD :-[...SOMETIMES AS YOU 1ST GET INTO THIS STUFF YOU DON'T REALIZE HOW MUCH OTHER STUFF YOU HAVE TO BUY TO BE READY TO GO WHEELING  :o ....ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY, MY PARENTS ALLWAYS TOLD ME......BUT HOPEFULLY IF I PUT A FEW NECESSARY ITEMS FOR WHEELING ON MY XMAS LIST, SANTA WILL  BRING THEM  ::)

there would be no highlift jacking points for a vehicle with stock bumpers(unless you dont like your paint job)
