tracker axle in rear of samurai.

tracker axle in rear of samurai.

I am in the process of putting my tracker rear axle in my samurai.  I have done alot of searches but came up with little to nothing here.  Anyone have a link to a build up or how to/information on this switch?

Are you putting the entire axle back there or just using the center section?

The only things I've read are where people do a hybrid - the center section of the tracker, and the axles of the Samurai.

the tracker rear is centered and a few inches wider than the samurai. If you are running on the road the offangle of the rear drive shaft will cause some major vibes. Off road only will not be too bad. If you are running a LWB you might be able to run on the street but you'll have to watch the u-joints really closely.

You can make a hybrid real easy. take the center section of the tracker rear and take off the tubes. You can take the tubes off the samurai rear and weld them back on the tracker rear. Most people will use new tubes and weld on the samurai ends but I've done many with the samurai tubes. Take plenty of measurements and take your time welding it.

making a jig is pretty easy and will save you alot of headaches when welding it all together. I've actually got a rear hybrid housing almost ready to go into a samurai. I was thinking of making some and selling some but there is no profit in it.

Try a search...... on Zukikrawlers.com as this is brought up all the time. The main things to keep in mind are the wheel spacers for the front axle as the kick axle is about 3" or so wider and the rear drive line. Some people have vibe's while others do not, most often there is no vibe issue.

The Kick tubes are beefier. Mine is cut down on the LHS and flipped and with the addition of 10mm adapter plates each side to take the front spindles for the full floater conversion it puts the pinion almost exactly in the Factory position and with shaving it I have not lost any ground clearance either.

There is if you make the adapter plates and the axle shafts  ;)

It also means that you get discs on the rear and the same spindles all around. I have also mounted a complete spindle/hub assembly on the rear as part of the spare tire carrier which means if I ever kill a wheel bearing I have a quick and easy replacement handy  :)
