88 SAMURAI BODY.....?
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:40:31 AM »
Maybe this question has been asked a thousand times, but I can't find anything.....

I may be getting a 1988 Samurai that is totally a project vehicle.  Its largest problem is the fact that its rear fenders are rusted so bad you can see through the vehicle.  I can't find replacement inner and outter fender pieces, and I was wondering if anyone knew where I might look to find them?  Or, does anyone know where you could get a fiberglass tub for the Samurai?

Anything I can find is great.  I can weld enough to fix it, but like I said I can't find any replacement sections to fix it.

ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.....Most websites I've looked on have front fender replacements, even front inner fender replacements, but nothing for the rear.

Thanks alot.

Clark

Is it the outside section of the fender well that is rusted out, along the body?

We cut the center of the inner fender well with a sawzall and then cut about 2" out of the side of teh body.  Then we had a piece of 3/16th cut to size, bent it, then welded it in place.  It removed the rusted out fender lip and gave us more clearence for tires in the back.

This was on a 410, but the fenders should be the same on a Samurai.

the great thing about the samurai tub is it has alot of flat panels... take some mesurements of the out side panel or make a template oout of cardboard not the real thick stuff ,and take it to like a tin place and get them made.. will probably be way cheaper then any aftermarket place..got a set of rockers made for mine.. cost the whopping 40 bucks.. and thats canadian.. so thats what  5 buck u.s...lol     just my 2 cents

I've been bugging Aqualu.com....they make aluminum tubs for land cruisers. (not much differnet then a Sami)  Trying to get them intersested in doing samurai tubs.

The more people calling and asking about it might motivate them to start building them.

When Murph over at IZOOK had the same problem, he went out to Marshalltown Iowa and got a pretty decent body tub from Rod's Samurai Parts.
