GV rear gearbox x-member

Are they the same as a older vitara? Mine is now banana shaped after offroading at the weekend  :( and need to swap it off.

Tong was a lot of fun but there seems to have been a fair bit of damage incurred by a good number of people. Do you have a pic of the xmember, I have one of the early types for an older Vit if it helps but I suspect that the chassis rails are further apart on the GV.

Why? If it's bent that it places stress on the mounts on the frame or the tranny mount, then I can see you taking it off, banging it back into shape, then reinstalling it. Simple enough.

There is no particular reason to do it just cause it's bent.

Though after straightening it out, why not get some flat steel and add this as a belly pan.

I will post a piccie when I have one but the x-member is bent downwards ??? if you look at it from the side the centre box section is now triangle shaped and isnt going to hammer out. Onlt problem is I have half made a full skid pan for under the gv and was to bolt onto the once flat box section of the x-m, wont fit now  >:(
There are ony 6-8 bolts holding it in, seems an easy job just need to find one from a breakers etc cheap ;).
Did see you RM but didnt manage to snap you, too many landies for my liking  :(

some i have already done

Nice picture of the engine bay. I know the dirt is a lot of water mix (as seen in the pics), but could you look at your air filter to see how much got in there. The cold air draw for the box is the fender in front of the plastic wheel guard, so it would be nice to know how much of the splash gets into the box.

Now, hopefully you already know, that little rubber line and cap just to the left of the radiator along the side of the radiator is the breather for the front axle. The breathers for the t-case and tranny (maybe) are on the trans tunnel just below the block and firewall. You may want to extend those even though they are far behind and way back, but getting stuck and waiting for rescue can prove disasterous. Recall SuperZuk's scenario.

Can't wait for the pics. What's up with RM's yellow light on top?

None  :) clean as new and it stayed dry after my visit to the ford recently (see my site) I think I am going to buy a decent snorkle tho, engines aren't cheap.

Yes its not in the best place athough you would struggle to get water in it. I was trying to find the breathers for the box and t-case yesterday but they are tucked up at the top of the tranny tunnel on top of the box, plan to extend them up into the A pillar on my drivers side, if i get water in them there i am in trouble  :o

My gas tank skid is also past its best, will have to take that off and weld on some checkerplate.

I think you were one of the lucky ones, almost everyone else I knew that was there sustained body damage. Did no one get a picture of that Porsche Cayenne? I think most of the muck around the engine is sprayed around by the fan, you need an electric one with a disable switch for wading.
