Are the 26 spline front shafts much stronger than the 22 spline?
« on: February 02, 2006, 06:46:12 PM »
I have a 90 tracker and it has the 22 spline front shafts. I was wondering if the 26 spline ones out of a 16 valve one are alot stronger, and if so, would it be worth it to swap in a 26 spline front housing?
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

Yes, tho with carefull driving you
can use them, but if you get chance
to get an axle and better splines,
go for it, just make sure the gears
are the same ratio

aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! I had a chance at one of these in a pick and pull. The truck had 147000 on it and it was a freeway driver. I couldve got it for 80 bucks because it was at pick n pull.

I am not a kick guy, but with sammies you just change the side gears and install the shafts. This cant be done on the kicks?

Sure, but it's best to keep the
parts with the diff they were set
up in, but if you wanted to swap
sidegears and shafts, you could
do that too

So buy new kick side gears or use used rear diff sidegears. I went with new sidegears when I did my swap to newfeilds. Have broken more than one side gear before.
