I think i Blew up my Clutch (samurai)
« on: March 22, 2006, 06:21:08 PM »

So i have a 86 zuki sammy, i went mudding last sunday night, and i got into it pretty hard in the water and mud and clay in 4 LOW, using the clutch alot, and at the end of the day i unlocked the hubs and put it in 2WD and started the drive home, i noticed that there was a bad burning smell comming from my truck and some white smoke under the hood,

and i had almost no clutch pressure to in gauge the clutch so i could shift,

i have parked the truck untill i can figure out the problom, Its really hard to shift gears, and it smells like burnt clutch while im driving , then my get white smoke or something from under the hood,

What could it be ? anyone go threw this also ?

Sounds like you may have just packed the clutch full of mud.  See if you can remove the inspection cover and get in there with a garden hose to clean it out.

If it smells while you are driving, it might just be slipping.  Adjustment might fix it for a while.

well, i just got done playing around under there, I noticed the lower clutch cover was missing.. :-[  lol, so when i was cruisin threw the mud holes mud, water and rocks were going into my flywheel and clutch, i also noticed i had rust on the flywheel, and the creeking noise when i engauge the clutch was small rocks and wahtever else was in there rattleing around or grinding, I started the truck and faced the front down hill and sprayed water into the flywheel hoping i could get some of that shit out of there, the creeking now went away,

as for the clutch cable it was barely on the threaded screw..lol

clutch works for now, and its drivable, might have to buy a clutch and resurface the flywheel tomarrow, just to get by untill i get all my parts for my 1.6 16v swap,

thanks for the help
