Thrush glasspack install question?
« on: February 05, 2008, 08:20:11 AM »
I am thinking about installing a Thrush Glasspack with 1-3/4"ID inlet and outlet.  What will I need as far as adapters to use all of the stock exhaust pipe?  Stock tracker exhaust is 1 3/4 inch o.d, right?  So should it go together without any adapters or am I missing something?

Thanks for any help!  I have never done any custom exhaust work and don't really want to spend the money to pay somebody else to do it.

I just redid my hole exhaust.  It was somewhat time consuming as I was mixing and matching parts.  I would seriously reconsider the glasspack though.  I have a thrush turbo muffler on mine and it sounds great!  The glasspack will wear too fast and will probably be louder and vibrate more than you want.  My best friend during the exhaust install was a set of digital calipers.  You can get them cheap from harbor freight or around $25 from menards.  These will allow you to get inside and outside diameters of your pipes.  Autozone has adapters to go from one size to another for under $3 per adapter.  A black and decker sazall to cut the pipe off that I used was about $50 at walmart and I think I remember seeing one even cheaper at menards (their tool shop brand). You can use muffler clamps and that will be cheap and easy.  For me I bought a reconditioned wire fed welder from harbor freight for $110 and it was awesome.  I working on teaching myself welding so this was well worth it and I am sure I will have many project lined up for it.  Came with wire and was ready to go.  Thats probably defeats your money savnig plan though.   ;D  Also which ever muffler you get take special note of your input and output locations on the muffler an make sure they will fit your exhaust scheme.  Glasspacks are straight through so if you use one make sure the rest of your exhaust will line up.

Couldnt agree more....having done the whole glasspack....mine wasnt a thrush...it was a true cherrybomb....totally annoying....sounded like a pi$$ed off bumble bee in a tin can....i have 2" pipe on mine from the manifold back with no cat and had a cherrybomb in roughly where the muffler is stock....sounded like umm....|removethispart|@$$....so about a week after i had that exhaust fabbed up, i had to re work it to fit my turbo muffler...but the turbo mufflers will give it a bit of a grumble...where the glasspack is just annoying....im 21...a punk kid too....i love loud cars and trucks....just me, thou

The glasspack is installed, now.  It cost $30 for the muffler and $25 for a local muffler shop to bend and weld a piece of pipe to compensate for the offset of the factory muffler.

I used clamps to install the muffler in case it wears and I need to replace it later or if I want a different muffler later.

It sounds great.  I love it.  The only drawback is, my wife loves the sound of it too and wants to drive it all of the time.     I love my wife!

If anybody needs info about the installation, just PM me and i will answer your questions or take more pics.
