still more lift ?'s
« on: November 09, 2004, 03:43:12 AM »
I am thinking of lifting my GV.  I was thinking of using a 2" spring spacer from a jeep in front.  Will this be too much for my CV's?  Also, should I use a 3" spacer in the back since the front will raise more than 2", or will 3" in back be too much?
Thanks in advance.
Can he say that here

If you use a 3" spacer in the back, you'll need an upper link spacer. I think you'll also need a strut spacer in front with the 2" spacers.

Here's Heather's budget lift guide if you haven't looked at that yet:

The GV's have a 5 link rear, unlike the three link in the trackick.  Will I need adjustable links like the ones at RRO?

You will most likely follow the Jeep Xj (Front) or TJ 4 link pattern.  They begin with 2" and no link mods, 3-4" just add longer lower links, and 4" + all (4) new links.

Of course your GV is scaled down so the exact inches of lift your arms can tollerate will be different but the limiting factors and conditions will be nearly the same.

CV's will depend on the exact height of lift and legnth of lower arms and CV's.  With a 2" coil spacer up front I believe you will also have strut alingnment and Steering Rack / tie rod issues to overcome.

I've got a 2" Jeep poly spacer located on top of my rear coil of my XL7. I've added a 2" aluminum bump stop spacer to the axle. Once you added a spacer to the coil, your bump stop is that much farther away from being used properly. With my new tires, I think the 2" bump stop is a little too short. I've got a 2" overall taller tire and so interference is a strong possibility.

For the front, this is a different story. My coil is compressed to ~8.5" installed. Free height, it expands to 12-3/4". The a-arm doesn't swing down far enough to be able to place spacer above coil and bring back up. I think I've come up with a solution of using short length rigid coil compressor sort of thing. Then, you'll have to either add new EMU?? struts up front or relocate the upper mount down. The stock struts will be at/near maximum extension with the spacers installed.

As for the angle on the cv's, the 2" spacer for up front is really pushing the maximum angle once the droop is positioned to be near stock droop from static stance. Not only will you have to be concerned of the cv's at droop, but also the steering arms as they are part of the rack and pinion steering. There will be a constant angle on these misaligned items.

Hope this helps.
