Any advantage of swapping motors both are 8v and both fuel injected?

More torque. I personally don't think it's worth the effort. 1/2 the reason to go to 1.6L is for the fuel injection, and ditching the Hitatchi carb, but you've already got FI. If you're wanting to do a swap, look at the 2.0L - that's got enough HP & Torque that it'd be worth the $$$ and time.

I'd swap it. More power, lots more torque and its a simple cheap swap.

blah, i had a 90 kick with a shaved head, cold air intake and it was no where near as fun to drive as my samurais 1.3L
it is a bit built up with a weber, headers, rebuild, msd ignition, full flowmaster exhaust,etc..
it's on 32's and is more fun than my 90 kick on 33's

unless your motor is really tired, then i woudn't do it. i don't even find the power in my 1.8 in my sprort to be all that great.

Are you running stock gearing? 2-door or 4-door?

Don't forget, the curb weight on the 2 door Sidekicks is listed at around 2400 pounds, 500 pounds more then they list for the curb weight on a Samurai 2 door.  That is a lot of extra weight to push around.

So - you're running 33" tires on something designed to run 27" tires? No wonder it seems sluggish compared to a 1.3L with a crap load of go-fas parts. It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Yes defintely! Keep your Samurai's fuel injection and intake and bolt that to the 1.6 long block. You'll notice a good power increase and way better driving. Instead of rowing gears and having it floored all the time you can skip gears and the gas pedal will only be 1/4 to 1/2 way to the floor. Much more pleasant driving experience.

YMMV :)

but i'm also running 32x11.5's on the 1.3
not really apples to oranges at all. it's a smaller engine, with some bolt on parts and older technology. the 1.6 in newer , FI, and bigger.

But have you ever run a 1.6 in a Sammy? The power is instant at all revs, just what you need for nearly all driving situations and for most off road driving too. I have an SJ413 with a 1.6 8V and a first gen Vit/Track/Kick with 33s.

nope, haven't driven one with a 1.6, but  i was goingt o go to alll the work of a motor swap it would not be a 1.6 out of a kick.
why not go with a swift gt motor, or a 7mge, or a 5mge, or a vw turbo diesel?

my 1st gen kick with the 33's was still fun, just not asmuch so as my samurai on 32's.

it's all about the gearing anyway, nobody builds a samurai to be a highway queen.

A Sami with a 1.6 moves down the road with bigger tires so much better it's crazy! I'd do it. It is well worth the effort.
