Transfer Case compatibility

OK all you parts gurus, I was thinking of going with some low range transfer case gears from Trail Tough( Lil Red inspired me) and am curious to know if the Transfer case out of my 92 Sidekick parts truck with an 8v 5 speed, will work/fit in my 95 16v Auto. That way I can do the gear swap, clean and prep the case, and then just swap them. Waddya think?

Its nice to be able to swap em out like that.  We pulled the transfer case out of a parts 91 Kick, installed the gears, then swapped it into my 92.  I have my original for backup if something goes wrong and wouldn't have been left stranded if we'd ran into trouble during the install.  It really wasn't a bad swap.  We did it in a couple of long afternoons and it only took that long cause I was "helping" and asking lots of questions.  I am just twisted from resisting testing them out more but can't take the chance I'll break something before next weeks trip!!!  I am thinking they may make me too brave!!  Bentparts, you will have to take them for a spin in Harlan!!  Oh and when I bought mine just a few weeks ago, they were on sale but I don't know how long it will last!!!

yup, you should have no problems ...

one thing I noticed ... the earlier tcases only have a "4wd" switch, later ones have an additional "4lo" switch, but same cases so you'll wanna use the plug or the switch depending on where ya transplant.

Great, thanks for the responses! I'm gonna put a call in to Brent today and see what the status is on the gears. I've got a side job this weekend that should cover about half the cost, so that's a good start. Where I live there really isn't a need for lower gears, but they would be nice to have for those trips to places where they actully have elevation changes and big rocks! I've done plenty of trails at places like Paragon before it closed, without lower gears, and managed to get thru everything, up everything, or around everything by using a combination of left foot on brake, right foot on throttle, both ends locked, and careful driving. It would also be nice to be able to RELAX a bit more while doing it! Lilred, counting the days! Looking forward to Harlan!

If your  planing to just pull the case and not the trans.  There's a hidden bolt under the trany shifter.  When you go to put it back together, just leave that one bolt out.  It will make it easier in the future.

with an auto even the one bolt in question isn't "hidden" ...

keep in mind that there are some different rear output splines on different years, not sure what the specs are, but check it out. best thing is to always get the driveline with the case ;)
