« on: June 01, 2004, 04:40:24 AM »
Im debating on getting a 98 sidekick sport or just gettin a 95 sidekick with the 1.6 8 V

Which truck is better cause there the same price ruflly the sport is like 500-1000 more?

From what I have heard it is hard to get modifications, such as lifts,  for the sport.  If you are going to leave it stock then get the sport, otherwise don't.

I thought the sport was the same body and frame just different motor and side skirts. It has the 1.8 DOHC???

Did they still have the 8V in 95? Oh, maybe in the 2 Doors... but definately not the 4 Doors... the 4 Doors had the 16V

Also... the Sport does have different body trim and an "upgraded" in my opinion interior... however, it DOES have a wider frame. The reason for this is that even though the Sport in the US only came with the 1.8L, overseas, it came with the 2.0L V6. To make it fit the 2.0, the chassis was widened for the entire Sport lineup.

Oh, come on guys, you can MAKE all those cool things Calmini makes WORK on ANYTHING. LOL...

There's a local guy here who has a Sport that he modified the Calmini 3+3 to work on it. It just takes a little ingenuity, and time. Direct from box to bolt on? Certainly not, but doable, yes.

As for my opinion...

If you like the fancy looks and the bigger engine of the sport, and you have the ingenuity and tools to upgrade it (if that is what you plan on doing)... I'd say, GET IT. I'd love to roll around in a pretty truck like that.

If you want mostly direct box to bolt on, and ease of part finding, as well as ease of modification, get the 95.

But... realize, once you get the Suzuki bug, you are stuck for life...  ;)

Oooo I bet that would look great.

Also, if the Sport you are looking at is an Auto, that's an even bigger bonus, because then you can put the differential gears out of a manual in it (should be able to find em anywhere!) , and be running around with the 1.8L and 5.12's ... making the 31's feel like stock! (Autos come with 4.62's...)

Ok... so then you'd want the 5.83 gears from Calmini...

;)

The torque converter and tranny in the Auto are what give the extra push/gearing to the 4.62's.

It's up to you...

Whatever decision you make... we are all here to help.
