Stupid Question
« on: November 06, 2008, 07:48:37 PM »

I'm not sure how to search for what I want to do.

Does anyone make a kit to put the Samurai front axle, springs, etc.  under the front of a 2wd Tracker?

I have a 87 Samurai that I plow with & today picked up a 92 Tracker 2wd that runs ruff, but is in great shape. The Samurai is a rust bucket.

If I can't swap in the axle, etc. can you put a tracker body on a Samurai?

Thanks.

Actually a not-too-stupid question.  Kinda weird application, though...

What you are looking for is a SAS conversion.

Unfortunately, SAS conversions usually involve lifting the truck, cutting, welding, etc., etc. causing you to spend about $2700 just for the kit alone.  Axles and other bits are extra.

You end up spending a lot more money than you probably want to.

Your best bet is to find another Samurai and swap the blade, patch up the rust or live with what you have for one more winter.  If the '92 engine isn't all that bad (needs a tuneup?) you might swap the engine into the Samurai.  It does not make the rust go away but you'll have more power in your Samurai for pushing the snow around...

You cannot easily swap a Tracker body onto a Samurai frame.  The Tracker's frame is designed to make the vehicle ride lower and has some sharp curves on the front section that would be hard to adapt the body to the straighter Samurai frame.

I hope that this helps!

Go red neck on the SAS, and save over $2000. I have a co-worker who's brother just did this, I'll try to get some info for you.

Thanks for the replys.

The Tracker is giving me hell right now.  I replaced the Alt. today and it will not start.  On Friday when I was messing with it, I saw the Alt belt was shot & then a Alt. bolt broke off.
I have replaced the plugs, checked for spark, and made sure cyl 1 was cyl 1 on the Dis. cap.
But it still will not start, even with starting fluid.

Friday when I saw the Alt belt I put a battery charger on it to get it to start & with it on the Tracker would run in the high RPMs, when it was picked up it wouldn't run in the high RPMs and would only do about 40mph.

After it would set all night it would start, but not run very well,  it would only run for a few sec. then die and will not restart.
