Ok, my first and second post were erased during hacking and recovery :-/

Anyways, I'm looking for a tracker and here's the recent developments.

So I saw another one tonight. This time with automatic (automatic = happy girlfriend).

1- But something weird happens when I slow down. There's like a small bang beneath the truck. I have a feeling it comes from the transmission/drivetrain but it could be elsewhere. Any ideas?

Is this easy to fix with sliders?

All in all the truck isn't bad. Taken well care of by people who don't know much about cars (when there's something wrong they took it to the garage but if they didn't know something was wrong... nothing was done). The car is clean but no antirust  .

I'm hesitating on this one... '91, 94 000km, aut. 4x4, soft top for 2500$. A little pricey.  

don't know where you are but there is one I wanted the rims off of and it is rust with some metal attached 267000kms and he wanted $2000

The rockers would need replacing. I replaced mine with heavy square-stock steel to make them rock rails as well as rocker panel replacements. Look back a few pages for my topic "Who needs rock rails, anyways!" for a full write up on how I did it.

I would make a guess that the small bang when you slow down is a small exhaust leak. It might not be big enough to sound loud, but it is big enough to suck a little bit of air when on the gas pedal, but as soon as you let off, that little bit of air hits the hot exhaust and un-burned fuel and causes a backfire...

rust is a headache and usually also a sign of a poorly loved truk

My guess about the "bang" ("clunk"?) would be it is in the U-joint on on the rear driveshaft clunking as the load across it reversed when you get off the gas/slow down.  Not an expensive thing to fix.

Try $1300  I would not settle for more than $1600

I didn't think about the u joint clunking... that could be, too...

I paid 1500 for my 91, 5spd, 4x4, not too much rust, ran perfect after a tuneup. Had 115000 on the clock.



That's after a new grill, 1" susp lift, 30's and paint the stock LSI rims black. It was a bit rank, as it sat in a barn for a year. Aside from the smell, it could have been a perfect DD, cept I had other plans.....














       

Bought my trucklet with 115k-ish miles with a 3" Body lift and 30x9.50s for $800 (or was it $1000)...one of those two    That was a steal of a deal though.  I'd still say that price is way too much for a truck with that kind of rust...

Don't get in a hurry. It may take some time, but you'll find a good deal ...

Mine was $2950 at the dealer, I drove away for $1400 (and they paid tax/licensing).

Not sure about that one. The reason I didn't suspect that is that it took a little while. Like 3 seconds of slowing down before it "clunked/banged" (not really a sound, more like a feeling of the thud... I hate explaining these non-sound symptoms)

A headache for sure. Up here though, if you don't get rust treated you're sure to get rust. The people who owned the truck seemed to take good care of it though. They're just not "car guys".

I'll take my time but the automatics get snatched up really fast here. At least it's my 2nd car so I have time...

Well the 89 sidekick that i will have on the road  next weekend has verry minor rust, around were the softtop hits the back deck, but i have some navel jelly and some rustoleum car primer, and it is only surface rust, so ill mask it off and slather it with the navel jelly and let that stuff do its thing over night, and then i will spray it with the rustolium, ther primer is grey and the truck is Dark blue so it wont be that noticable if i do a good job, and i think i will paint the CHASIS/inside of the body/under the body with Rhino Liner

My acura used to be a newyork car/ so i had to do a rust treatment on the undercarage of that, mostly surface but there are some places that could use attention of a welder.

I just replaced all that rust on my 4 door with 4x3 square tubing. What a PITA!!! I had rust into the door frame area and had to section a piece out of a wreck and weld it in. If you leave even al ittle rust it will continue to spread. I say move on and find another!
