newbie fuel gauge/leaking water inside/hot hubs/Waren Winch
« on: August 23, 2010, 07:11:48 PM »
Hey guys, Im new to the forum as I just bought a 1993 Sidekick 4dr, Auto.  The price was right and didnt aske to many questions as it runs good.

I have a few question as I drove it for 45 minutes and put it in 4x4 for a few minutes during the drive home and the driver side hub is very hot (cant touch for more than a second), passanger side is warm but bearable.  Id open it up but looking on the net here it look like i need a special socket.

The carpet in the back was soaked all the way down to the driverside rear carpet, Is this a common problem ? maybe leaking seal in the hatch, but it looks all  good.  Possibly the last guy maybe just dumped a gallon of water in it  ???

Waren winch has a place to plug in the remote control but the plug on the end of the remote does not fit into the winch.  Can I just cut of the plug and get a new one to fit some where ?

Fuel gauge is broken,  any common problems or place to look.  Bad grounds etc ?

Thanks for any help,  I tried some searches for the last 2 days but Im have some troubles ...

You should repack the wheel bearings right away, hot is not good.
You don't need a special socket, just a hammer and a cold chisel, or
a screw driver if you want to  ;) first remove the 4 small screws with
an impact driver or they will most likely strip out if you don't.

Water, leave the windows down, once water gets in these trucks
can turn into a tropical rain forest inside

Fuel gauge, never had a problem with mine, look at grounds and the
wires on the top of the tank

Hey, thanks for getting back to me...

Is it also a good rule to change the timing belt right way on the 16v, from what I read its an interferance head design.

Illl pull the bearings apart tonight and regrease, thats the only thing holding be back from driving it.  Figure out the rest as I go, but Id love to get the winch working for sure.

The 16V 1.6L engine is not an interference engine

Depending on the mileage you might just change the water pump, thermostat
and timing belt before things get to leaking and over heating

You can get on line and get a new remote for your winch from any distributor of Warn products. Check out our the links on the main page, I know a couple of the retailers sell warn.

zuki, wild

Thanks for the help.I just want to drive but when i read about interfernce heads and other problems people have I get a little scared.  ill get insurance tomorrow.

Doing the hubs for sure and i found a link to build a tool to torque the hub bolt using 2x2 square stock and some bolts.  Ill start digging in to waren distributers.
