Just in case it has not been emphasized enough:

It's a light, short wheelbased truck.  The ride will suck.

Some have used longer Jeep YJ springs to soften the ride.  Others just air down the tires below manufacturer's specs for a softer ride - something I have done but it screws up gas mileage and wears the tires out faster on the road!

When driving offroad, lower tire pressure helps the ride AND improves traction.  If nothing else, see how your Samurai handles by taking a test drive to the deer stand with 15-18 pounds in each tire.  You have to remember to fill 'em up again when you get back on the road.

I hope that this helps!

I am one of those guys Eric recommended the small setup to and could not be happier.
1.5" Old Man Emu springs, not sure if you can get these anymore they were called the light duty springs.
3/8" shackle, mainly for strength
30" Goodyear MTR's, great all round tire
trail disaster shocks, hey they were 10 bucks a piece.
4-1 t case gears
lockrights front and rear
now, the thing I have liked the most is the 16v. Really changes the way the car drives. You have enough power to drive it down the freeway easily.
This setup is how they should have come from the factory in my opinion

First, try the SPOA without the longer shackles.  You may not need them.  I'm not a fan of going more then an inch with Shackles myself.  They tend to hit a lot of rocks.

As for the traction bar, it depends on what you are going to do.  I would have someone watch you wheel a bit first and see if your getting a lot of spring wrap when racing up hills.  If your pretty easy on the throttle then you most likely won't need one.
