Calmini HD axles shafts Q's
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:40:44 AM »
Is anyone currently running the calmini Heavy duty forged axle shafts in their Samurai?  I've been playing with a couple ideas for heavy duty axles and am thinking about using these shafts with a hybrid rear housing (w/ 3/16" DOM axles tubes)

Is anyone currently running these axle shafts and what do you think of them?  What tires/gear/motor are you using and how well do they hold up in comparison to stock units?  I'm looking at running 4.62 locked diff, 4.16 t-cas, 16v 1.6 w/ 3spd auto, kicker 3 tcase (extra 1.89:1 tcase) w/ 33's.

Most impotantly, has anyone busted one and what did it take to break it?  I'd hate to spend $140/shaft for axles that I'd break anyway.  THANKS!

I think the early ones had problems but calmini replaced them for free, the new ones are a lot better than there old ones but even the old ones were better than stock.

cool.  I was actually looking at a spidertrax hybrid (non full floater for now, low on $) rear for impact resistance but wanted to make sure I could eventually get stock style axle shafts that would hold up better to 33's.  Otherwise I may just get a trailtough hybrid rear and toss the calmini shafts in that down the road.

Does anyone else make non full floater Sammy axles.  I know the stockers hold up to 31's.  Mine is currently lincoln locked and has 4.16 gears and its been fine.  So were you's the "Old Version?" and you just had trouble on the return service?  When did you get them?
