95 Tracker Won't Start
« on: February 05, 2009, 06:22:04 PM »
Hey guys. New to posting but have spent a lot of time on this site researching fun stuff 8) First thing is its a 95 tracker, auto, 16 valve, 81,000 miles.

Ok, its a wonderfull day today so I decided to do some routine stuff. I had already changed the oil so I started it moved it 10 feet, and Replaced the air filter. After that I went to restart it and it wouldn't start. Cranks over well (strong smell of gas after cranking shortly), sounds like it wants to start, #1 plug was wet, plug has spark, timing belt good.

The CEL came on at 80,000. From reading on here before I knew it was probably the switch under dash. So I ignored it till now. I went to read the code and it flashes (tps)22, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12..... I had notice a slightly rough idle before but not bad enough to mess with. What do you guys think. A tps isn't cheap. And would it keep from starting?? I'm going to check the grounds tomorrow.

TPS won't usually keep it from starting. Try swapping the injector with another one to see if the fault moves cylinder.

Hey thanks for the input, I found the problem though. I started it fist thing this morning. Started right up but blew a lot of smoke. (flooded) I opened the hood and could hear what sounded to be an exhaust leak but from the left side rear side of the motor.  The egr valve had vibrated loose and hence massive vacum leak. Weird that it happened right at 80,000. I had made a voyage from windy Wyoming to eastern Kansas. Pulling a trailer with a dirt bike. I'm sure that contributed. Atleast it wasn't an ecm!!!!! :)

yeah... I usually start looking for loose / unplugged bits after I mess with stuff, and things aren't working right. Sometimes I forget to plug something in, or accidentally unplug something (vacuum lines are common as I try to reach to get to strange things around the engine).
