Snorkel = life jackets!?
« on: April 11, 2006, 07:24:14 PM »
So I took my daughter for a little ride down at the river by our house today in the newly lifted 'Kick.  She wanted to go through the water to the gravel bar, which is about a 75 foot crossing through a very slow flowing eddy.  We go through once and the water is about to the top of the tires, no biggy but exciting for my 6 year old.  We do a couple hill climbs and she wants to take another pass through the water.  This time I pick a different line.  We get about 1/2 way through the water and it starts getting DEEP.  She says, "Daddy look out your window."  I already am as I see the water is about the top of the front fender wells.  I know the air intake is behind the driver's headlight, so I give 'er about 5 grand on the tach.  The BFG M/T's start throwing water up over the roof and my daughter starts giggling even harder.  About the time I'm expecting to drown it out the front starts coming out of the river and we tear up onto the gravel bar.  My daughter's cheering the 'Kick on and I'm just happy to not be dead in the water!  So we get home and I'm telling my wife about our fun and how I maybe should look at fabbing up a snorkel.  She tells me, "You don't have to go in the water any more."  I tell her, "Yeah, but it was cool!"  She adds, "Well, if you need a snorkel then you'd better carry life jackets."

I'm still laughing.  Notice my new signature.

BTW, the guy in the 'Yota with 35" Boggers was duly impressed with the 'Kick after he witnessed my water crossing and hill climbs!  ;D

You would at least need a diving snorkel for yourself, as the car will breath underwater even if you cant ;D ;D ;D. I think it would be weird wearing a life jacket while wheeling in the water: one minute you would be wheeling doing a water crossing, then your rig sinks, and before you know it, you will be floating downstream like a log or something ;) ;D.
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

was wondering

does water just pour in when you hit stuff that deep?

through the door jams or just the firewall?

I mean, it sure looks like it to me.
