I know this has probably been brought up before...but this one is a bit different, so don't yell at the NEWB just yet 

I have been looking at various rear bumpers to figure out how I want to make my own, and all of the rear bumpers leave a large gap between the bumper and the bottom of the rear fender flare. It looks incomplete. I know looks aren't the main reason for changing to a heavy duty bumper with good departure angles, but if I'm going to spend the time making something, I want it to look like a factory fit.

Has anyone addressed this problem?

The best attempt I have seen from a 'store bought' bumper was on the shrockworks bumper. It wrapped around the rear 1/4 panel the best, but still left a gap about 3" between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the fender flare.

I saw one on here some time ago that also went around the corner, shouldn't be too hard to fab IMO If you make one like your front bumper you could keep it straight and have some tube running towards the front too

I like the tubular bumpers, but I had this square tubing laying around, so I went with what I had. I think they both look good! Hopefully I can make the rear with some 'shape' to it like I did the front.

Are the brackets coming out the only mounting points you are using, or are you adding more towards the ends? Just curious. I haven't looked at the back bumper much yet, so I'm not sure where I'll be mounting anything. I do, however, know that I want a receiver hitch on the front and rear. On the front, I'll be carrying a fishing rod holder, and on the rear I'll have a rack to hold ice chests. I wonder if the frame rails will support this weight while going over bumps? Hope so!

The shrockworks bumper is definitely the style I'm after...but I'll fill that gap a little better hopefully. We'll see how it turns out in a week or two!

I'll be fabbing some kind of Xshape-crossmember from chassisrail to chassisrail for extra strength, haven't figured that one out yet

Here is mine.  I did the Rocky Road DIY bumper.   I added in some Tubing along the body.   



The mudflaps come off with pins That go through the Tubes under the side.

Yup plates welded at the bottom line of the bumper and then I added some sides gussets to help support it.  I plan on adding some tabs that attach to the body mounts under the tailgate this spring.

Is there any way to wire the bumper lights to just one light for blinker/brake/running light?

I'd like to have a red and white on each side, instead of 2 reds, and a white, or a red/amber/white...

I'll have to look at the wiring I guess. The lights I ordered are 3wire, so I can probably make it work somehow.

You will need to get a converter like what is used for a trailer light harness.  That will convert everything overt to run a Stop/Blinker/tail light on the same bulb.  Should be able to buy a generic Trailer harness with the converter and wire it in.

I bought one on Ebay for almopst nothing a while back ( was actually for the JaguarTrike, but I sold that before fitting the converter, going to try and use it on the Zuk )
