Security ?
« on: March 02, 2005, 01:33:07 AM »
I just bought a 94 4dr Sidekick with factory keyless entry and some type of security system. My question is what does the switch on the dash do?(It's to the left of the steering wheel.) The guy I bought it from said if you shut the switch off the suzuki won't start. What is this for??

The guy had no clue about what he was talking about...

That's the Valet switch.  Let's see if I can remember how it works - I just always leave mine turned off...

If it's UP, it think that's "alarm off", and if it's DOWN, I think that's "alarm on".

If you press the keyless remote, and it "chirps", the alarm is on.

BY THE WAY, if you have it ON, and you shut the engine off, and close the door, after a short period of time, it WILL lock the doors!  My wife discovered this at the car wash with my 4-door - I had to come unlock it for her, because she left the keys in the vehicle.

Thanks, that helps! I think for now i'll leave it alone, everything's working good so far. I was just curious about why he said it wouldn't start, he thought it shut off the fuel pump!?

I do not know about the stock Suzuki System but some of the aftermarket Alarms will shut down the motor once triggered :-/

Well... I have the factory security system - it doesn't shut off the fuel pump.  It just sits there, and wails away.

Wow yours makes sound? mine just blinks, i'm sure that will scare some one off. It does not disable the starter in fact you can drive with it going off i have. The switch will turn it off like say its armed and it goes off just flip the switch up and it goes off.

The most annoying thing about the factory security system is that it auto arms.  Go pump gas, 30 seconds later, 'chrip' alarm armed.  Pull into garage, 30 seconds later, 'chirp' alarm armed.

WHO the FREAK arms their alarm inside their garage, or when they're pumping fuel?  Honestly?

(We just leave our alarm permamently off, via the valet switch on the dash.
