SAS Build Question: Geo+Toyota+Jeep
« on: August 27, 2008, 01:20:22 PM »
Hi guys, it has been awahile since I have been here. Long story.  :'( Anyway I am doing a SAS Tracker (SWB) build and I have a question about whether to go spring under or spring over. I am using Toyota PU axles and Jeep YJ front leaf springs at all corners. With the springs on top it looks too tall to me to be practical. With them under it will require more work since the axles are set up for spring over. I have 33" tires now but may go with 35"s someday.

What do you think?

I would say go with the spring over.  Are you using an 86+ Toyota rear axles?  If not i would look into getting that year, they are 3" wider than the 79-85's.  You just have to get some 1.5" wheel spacers for the front axle...or do an IFS hub swap to gain some more width.

What pack size are your YJ springs?

I'm using the YJ front spring pack (4 leaf). I decided on using them at all four corners since the 5 leaf rear seemed like it would be too stiff. ???

If you plan to drive it on the road, check to make sure spring over axle is a legal modification.  Where I live, spring over axle(unless factory) is illegal.

Sent you a PM...  ;)

On my samurai im running a 4 pack up front and a 5 pack in the back.  I was told to put a thicker pack in the rear to help reduce axle wrap.  The 5 pack is still pretty dam soft and is flexes pretty good, i just made sure i could find the most trashed YJs in town.

Decided to go with the spring under for now. Converting to a spring over would be an easy change since the axles are set up that way.
