How many sidekicks were made in japan
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:07:01 PM »
I was looking at a suzuki sidekick a while back, and noticed it was made at CAMI auto works in Canada like the Tracker. I was wondering if anyone on this forum owns a sidekick that was built in japan, and if there are any real differences between the japanese built and canadian built ones(different options, build quality, etc)
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

My seafoam green '89 is a Japanese built Sidekick. I don't think there are any real differences in build, options, etc from Canadian units. At one time people stated that the coil spring perch was at a different height on the frame but I don't believe that is true.

I have a '96 CAMI Tracker and a '93 Japanese-built 4-door 'Kick and from the work that I have done on them - mostly in the front, they both seem pretty much identical.  Maybe the paint is better on the CAMI Tracker, but I bought both of them used so I don't know how they were treated earlier in life.

There is a difference in the early Kicks made in Japan and Canada. In the 89's there is a fidderence in the frame where your front control arms attach (ie. the early Explorer Pro Comp 2.5" lift kit would only properly install on the Canada Kicks without modification). There is also a difference in some of the gearing in the T-Case of the Early Kicks (shaft depth is different causing the early T-cases not to always work with the 4:1 kits)

Mine too!   ;D

Oh, and the Japanese ones will run on rice wine while the Canadian ones run on anything with hops and barley.  ;)
