please help need to replace clutch cable
« on: September 02, 2007, 04:05:15 PM »
i'm new to this forum in hope of search for repair/mantain techniques for my 96 4dr sidekick 5spd manual sports.  i recently got this car from a friend and i was told that the clutch cable is disengaged from the transmission.  there's no pressure against the pedal or whatsoever whenever i depress the clutch.  once its fully depressed it won't bounce back.  so i decided to repllace the clutch cable, but i can't seem to locate such a cable in/out side of the firewall.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks. :)

go under your stearing column find where the cable runs through the fire wall take something stiff n long like a coat hanger poke it through a good ways thats then go look where it poked out. or go buy a hainse manual from auto zone. it should be near the top of the fire wall under yer hood on the right or left if your not in the states

It's just possible that the cable is just unhooked from the pedal linkage, so check that first.  Another possibility is that the free play adjusting nut is not on the other end of the cable at the clutch linkage.  If it's either of those two things, slide the cable back and forth in the sleeve some-- this will be a good opportunity to see if the cable is sticky or damaged and needs replacing.

There is no cable on a sport, it's hydrolic.

Yes it all just unbolts from the out side of the trans so it is not that hard at all, could be out of fluid or the master looking thing by the pedal could be shot if no fluid is leaked out, just replace it, call hawk and have him send you a used one if on a buget.
