Building new DD/weekend wheeler..

Building new DD/weekend wheeler..

Hey everyone, as you all know I am 18.  Recently my mother came across some savings bonds my grandmother left me for when I turned 18.  I had no idea of these until a few days ago.  Well the total of the bonds is right around 5 thousand dollars. (I know I should use it for college but I already took out a loan and am paying on it each month, so i'm good there).  Well since my current rig (94 track) is still running good, it is VERY rusted and is nickel and diming me to death.  I plan on buying a tracker in better condition.  I should probably be able to find one around here for 2000-2500 dollars.  So that leaves me with about 2500 dollars.  These are my plans with the rest of the money...

*Calmini 6 inch combo lift - $1000
*32x9.5-15 tires (don't know what kind yet) - about $600
*Rock Crawler steel wheels - $250
*Calmini full header back exhaust combo - $600
*Calmini high flow cold air intake - $120

TOTAL: $2570

Thats what I want to start out with.  From what Calmini is saying, that exhaust and cold air intake of theirs should give my engine about 25% more power.  That should be enough to push them 32s until I get some more engine mods or gears right?  My current tracker is pushing only 170psi from each cylinder (should be 190psi I think) and it moves the 31s on it pretty good right now.  So I'm not worried. 

Well guys, you think I got a good set up so far??

I would save the money on exhaust and intake mods as you can do it way cheaper yourself and get some Trailtough t-case gears as you're going to need them with 32's.

You know what, I actually thought about doing my own exhaust.  Ya I think I'll go with a Calmini header, a high flow exhaust, dynomax muffler, and custom bend the tubing (buddy workd at midas).  And I think i'll just buy a high floe k&n cone filter to go on my cheap one i bought on ebay.  And then save for the t case gears  :)

Where do you live?
If you're current rig runs good...  aftermarket4x4 sells rust free bodies and frames.
Just another option.

well its not even just the body and frame thats rusted and all messed up.  Ya it runs good but theres leaks in the engine, rear axle and the front axle.  And no power steering or power anything.  I just wanna start over from scratch.  How do you think a automatic tracker with 5.12 gears and 32in tires would run?  If i put full aftermarket 2in exhaust and header with a k&n cold air intake...you think it would turn them tires ok or should i stick with gettin a 5 speed with the 5.12s already in it?

IMHO gearing is everything, well not quite but it is pretty damn important so if you are able to correct gearing for larger rubber then it is a good thing plus autos rock offroad. For the type of wheeling I do I'd rather hunt around for some used bits in good condition like rims and rubber and lift options so I still had money for t-case gears and a rear locker as the capability increase from them offroad is amazing. I suppose it depends on what you drive and where your priorities lie.

I would personally go with the Doug Thorley header over the Calmini... Seems better quality and will bolt up direct to you stock exhaust until yer ready for the new one.

I did the same thing ...learned what area's to check out beforhand. I found my 95 listed for $2500, after looking it over and finding numerous problems, I talked the seller down to $1200 as the repairs needed would have cost a bunch for him to have done, he did agree he was asking too much, just didn't know. I changed the alternator and installed a new belt in his driveway, and drove it home. I guess my point is, look around before you make a descision, and be sure to check out all those spots you had problems with on your old one.

PS - The 16 valve rocks  8)

   I agree,that is way too much for exhaust.Also check out the thourley header.Gears is everything,and that is definately where I would start.
