Ya, I was thinking about it, the way I remember it,
cam timing works opposite of ignition timing, retard
is good for top end and advance is good for bottom
end, so a cam sprocket that retards at RPM would
be good for a turbo motor, retards for reduced pre
detonation under high boost and RPM

You're probaly right, it depends which way the dizzy rotates relative to the cams. Would be good to try out a few settings on a dyno. Wish I knew of one round here.

I had to verify my memory, and what
I thought I had read about 15 years ago.

I found several articles that were included with
variable cam sprockets, all gave this info.

"In general, advancing the cam timing increases
low-end torque and improves throttle response.
Retarding the camshaft timing will generally shift
the powerband upward, increasing top-end power."

Hope this helps

Thats right but you also have to remember that on some engines too much of a shift can bring the valves into contact with the pistons on the overlap.

Fortunately for Suzuki owners, the 1.3L, 1.6L
and the 1.6L SOHC engines are all non-interferance
(I personaly checked this on the 16V)

I don't know about the 1.8L or the V-6 engines,
but I don't think many of those guys are going to
be digging into the chain drive to modify the valve
timing

Has anyone tried that mod on an 8V? I'm always looking for more power...and my engine has quite a few mods as well...hmmmm...time to order that underdrive pulley from RRO ;)

Thats what I have  (1.6 8v). Thanks for the link,(OCC) Thats where I got my underdrive pully but I lost the link. Now I can get that adjustable cam sprocket. ;D

After I retarted the cam I think the dis. was kinda off so I pulled it and put it back in a gear tooth off so that when the roter was pointing at 1# the dis. is in the middle of its adjustability ( where its supposed to be) Before,,,to set the timing the dis. had to be way off to one side not in the middle.

Does that make sence?
