failed inspection due to manifold exhaust leak
« on: July 06, 2007, 10:56:37 AM »
damn  >:(

This is a 93 Tracker in question here. figured I would double post this from Zuwharrie cause I forgot, I always get more responses here (everything lumped together here, instead of the seperate forums I think  ;D)

the one thing I havent replaced yet, they complained about.  They found the manifold leaking in several places so, i figure its a good time for an upgrade.  Now to decide on a couple things.

First, a Doug Thorley header or a Calmini?  Can I get the DT header readily from a Zuk site? (I know theres a certain site that takes forever to ship things but i dont know exactly where to get a DT header from, so i dont know if that limits me at all)  Also, anyone comment on quality of these 2 headers?  they look and cost about the same amount.

Second, can I JUST get a new header and rig it onto the rest of the exhaust with some welding of adapters onto the exit part of it?  If I can save some cash, I wont get the full exhaust done quite yet, mine still has SOME life in it.  Plus I dont want to spend the cash if I dont have to right now (also need some new tires soon)

Third, Ive heard to get an OEM gasket for the header pipes, is this true?  That the OEM is the best to use regardless for no leaks?

Thanks, Ill think of more inquirys later

If you get one from say trail tough ask them if it has the egr pipe on it, I think you will need one that has that to pass inspection, I know they sell one also that does not have it. it should come with the part that welds onto your pipe just infront of the cat.

The Doug Thorley header has the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) take off. Not sure about the Calmini one, IIRC it has.
