K&N filter + Washing machine= BAD IDEA
« on: April 23, 2005, 09:53:52 AM »
started off as a good idea.  Really dirty filter from being submerged in the water and mud, could not get it clean.  I soaked it in detergent and bleach, still no go.  1st round in the washing machine on gentle cycle was a big improvement.  Almost white. 2nd round on heavy duty - big mistake.  rubbed a hole right through the filer element.  Oh well, pressed the wire mesh together, a bit of epoxy, good enough.

I wasnt going to throw it away after I wrecked it, not after paying $80 for it

Thanks for the tip  :)

I'll now know not to wash the k&N in the washing machine and from previous experience why  "Knot"  to put my 9 meter snatch strap in their ether  :-[

They are a cotten filter right...  So remember, no warm/hot water.  It'll shrink.

I thought that you weren't even supposed to 'spray' water on it.   If I remember correctly it just wants a good 'soaking'.

I might consider the dishwasher on a pre-soak, but that'd be it.
