Hey everyone, this is my first post, and i just got my first Sammy! 

It is an 87 and i love it! 

My problem is it has carpet in it and it is a convertible and when it rains the back gets all wet.  I see that quickly rotting out.
I'm not interested in a hard top, and i was thinking of getting a bestop duster and windjammer, which i may still get a windjammer just for those chilly days.  But i just don't see me taking the duster, windjammer, and top on and off with ever little weather change. Not to mention those nice sunny days that it decides to rain 20 mins after i leave the house.   

So what i'm debating doing is tearing out all of the carpet, and seats, (it has the split rear seats) and painting the whole inside with durabek so that i don't ever have to worry about it.  Is this a good idea?  I would plan on leaving the carpet right out. Would i have to sand down to bare metal first? any tips, tricks, better suggestions?  Any opinions are greatly appreciated!  thanks

There is only one system that I will ever use or recommend to be used, that is ChassisSaver for corrosion protection followed by Monstaliner, monsta is also available now in 40 colors and in 1 quart pkging.

ok cool, i didn't even think of doing a coat of ChassisSaver first, that makes sense, I've heard great things about it.

 So monstaliner is the best stuff out there?  Basically i just want to coat the whole entire inside of my truck and make it totally rust/water proof.

I have used the durabk for my exterior coating and it has done great. You could coat the inside but its very large rough coating, you could thin it down but defiantly as talonxracer said probably not the best way to go for the interior.

I'd pull the carpet too.

I have on the rigs I've had. I never did a bedliner/undercoat system. I just left it bare.

Worked Great for me!

I even leave a couple drain plugs out on purpose. Let it rain, it will drain.

Maybe make a windjammer out of a clear shower curtain liner???

Absolutely especially if you use it offroad it gets all dirty and gets rotted and ripped up. No question not to mention the bedlier will be super protective it take a hammer and chisel to get it to chip,
