Pre-96 t-case in a 97 Sidekick?
« on: March 18, 2008, 09:28:36 PM »
I've recieved my TrailTough gears in the mail. Instead of paying big bucks to have someone install them in my current t-case, I was thinking it would be much cheaper to just buy a used Sidekick transfer case, put the 4.24's in there, and then swap the transfer cases in one shot. That way I don't have to worry about getting it done by the end of a weekend. In theory this will work, the only thing I'm not 100% sure on is the output spline count...I read somewhere they are different on 1996-1998 models...is this true and can I somehow work around this?

Just swap the yoke (make sure you get it with the t-case) on the tailshaft that goes in to the rear of the t-case to suit. It's an opportunity to put a new universal joint in there at the same time. I have done this before and am about to do it again when I swap t-cases in the next couple of weeks.

Yes, they are different.
Swapping yokes is a work-around.
Swapping output shafts is another work-around (although probably not as feasible).
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.
