hi,
looking to put a differant radiator in my 88 sammy. has anyone swapped one in from a wrecking yard that worked better??
looking for better cooling during the hot summer months.

The Track/Kick radiator has been used by a few people when carrying out engine swaps but a bigger rad isn't usually needed.

You might look at what is causing the radiator to
not cool as well as you want, fan clutch working?
crap in the radiator cores? etc

Also, if it is a TRUE 88 Samurai radiator, it is ALL METAL!  This means that it can be easily cleaned out by a local radiator shop (the process is called "rodding") for less than a new one!

I would keep it and get it fixed - assuming that your fan clutch has not died as others have suggested.

BTW, I run a 1.6 8-valve with my rodded all-metal 1.3 radiator with no problems!

hey thanks will do that.  I have no clutch fan.  elec fan on it. will take it into the shop in the spring before it starts to heat up outside and have it cleaned.

Few years ago I got a replacement samurai rad from the junkyard... It really wasnt for a samurai as I was told it was about 4 inches longer and I just made a new bracket for it.   Was nice to have bigger rad in there for summer here in minnesota but during winter it never got as hot as it used too.

goodluck with yours. I would have it cleaned like the others say in above posts.

Check the blades on your water pump to see if their still there. It's rare that they dissolve but it does happen.

I believe its just the rad. plugged up.  the water pump is new. i alway put a new one on with a motor rebuild.
just noticed that it runs about 190 on the freeway. when its 45 out.  has a 180 thermostat. so its pushing its limit.

Since you are going to pull the radiator, you might try an internal hot-vinegar soak.  I posted some comments on my results in a thread at pirate: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=727452
The radiator took about a quart and a half of hot vinegar (from the microwave oven).  Work quickly, as the acetic acid in the vinegar boils out of the water faster than the water boils.  Let it stand until the radiator begins to cool, at least 10 minutes, before dumping the hot vinegar.
