THE 1.6 SWAP HAS STARTED!!!!!
« on: May 03, 2005, 12:51:25 PM »
Well the wiring part started today. I got off work just a little early so I dug in and started on the wiring. It took a little longer then I thought but 3 hours later it's ready to be shipped to Brent at Trail Tough. I just hope he has REALLY GOOD directions how to put it back together because I have no idea what some of that stuff went to.
This weekend we will take the motor out of the Sami and get it all cleaned and painted, then if we have time start taking out the motor on the Tracker.
Things are starting to look like we might have a running Sami by the end of the month!  ;D

Brent has AWESOME customer service too.

Ya, that is what they say about software on computers.  ::)!!
I also have a question, what is the speed sensor??
He told me to send both speed-o-s and for $50.00 he will fix that. This part of the project is starting to cost a BUNCH!!! but hopefully it will be done right.
Brent has been very helpful the couple times I called him, and I know he gets a lot of phone calls.

So does anyone have pictures they can send me or post of there 1.6 8V swap so I know what it will look like when I'm done?

The speed sensor is a small reed switch that works off of your speedometer, when you pull the samurai speedo appart the mounting holes are there and so is the magnet (the round thing that spins that the reed goes next to) just a two wire hook up and I think he by passes the 80k switch (I left mine)The vss tells the engine that you are coming to a stop so your engine will not stall out.

I'm also looking at this swap and the speedo mod, except for a '97 16valve kick motor.

That speedo mod sounds tooooo easy to do myself to pay $50 to Trailtough to do it.  Does anyone have pics on how to do the speedo mod?  If nothing else, I'd like to keep my speedo here and on my Zuke to avoid downtime while waiting for the harness to get back.  Also, does Trail tough need the wiring harness out of the samurai to modify the Kick harness?

Finally, how long is the turnaround on a modified harness?  With a little luck I'll be going 16v 1.6 in between Gonzukin and Zukimelt.  I just need to be certain I can finish before the melt or that I can have my 1.3L available in case the harness takes too long.

They only needed the wiring harness for the Geo Tracker under the dash and the motor harness from the Geo Tracker, nothing from the Sami.

Depends on how many he gets Brent said a couple days turn around. In our case it didn't matter to much since the Sami's motor never has worked since we got it.

truckasaurus44; as for you doing a 97 I don't know what the difference is but people say they are harder.
