positive arc springs

positive arc springs

a friend told me that the springs on my samurai are negative arc and that if i put positive arc springs on front and back i should be able to run 30/7.5 tires no problem. has anyone else tried this?

You mean lift springs? Like this?

As that pic shows you can fit 31's with Old Man Emu spings. I had 30's on it with no lift at all. Just takes a little bumper trimming.

I've got one with 30x9.5 M/Ts on it with  no trimming, 31's thou would definitely require lift or trimming.

just go spring over, those springs are not with out there problems, nothing is for free. what ever the mod.
1987,1988,1988,1990 samurai's,  1953 m38a1,  1996 x-90,blue.1996 x-90 red.1994 2 door tracker.   only Dead Fish go with the flow.                No Hairy Nosed Wombats were ran over on the trail today.       My ZUK is Xenophobic.

I am curious what you think the springs problems are? Not doubting you just never heard anything bad. And yes that sammie was on 30's with only bumper trimming. I also have a spring over sammie and had alot of problems with spring wrap/bending/sag. That one is going a different route all together. I love the little one. It reminds me why I got into them in the 1st place.

I cut some 2" longer shacles for my sami and im clearing 32's no problem ( no trimming required) ;D

The springs with the arc in them when they compress the drive shaft grows in length and could come apart, your shocks will swing and hit the bump stops, if you run lockers the rear springs will load up on you while driving on the road, your rear end will hit the gas tank, ect.

it would seem that my springs look like they arc with the high point in the middle , it rides awsome on the highway but gets air time on the gravel bush roads ::) and is very rough . i understand that you cant have the best of everything. the friend that told me to go with the positive arc,  has 2 kuhmo powergaurd 30/9.5 `s brand new for 100 bucks cdn. they are 176 a piece new with taxes needless to say i am very interested.( will buy two new ones to match) i have 205 highway radials on it right now, i took it for a little romp tonight and had a blast (87 long wheel base) but would never rely on these tires for my hunting spots. so i wanted to go with as little change as possible to comfortably run these tires and also is a p235 a good match for a spare?

nice truck! all of you seem to have awsome rigs.i just got mine a month ago all it needs is the tail pipe and a little help with the e brake and she is 100% legal. i have spent 1800.00 on it total so far and about75 hours i have recieved awsome advice and help from this site and i thank you all. dave. if your ever in prince george B.C. look me up and we will go get dirty  ;D

Sounds good on the tires I would grab them, there are several ways to lift a sammie, just look around and see what ya like and can afford and go for it. I have three sammies here,one with 3 inch lift springs and two with spring over lifts and a four door. so if you need pics.? P.S. I could show you what three inch lift springs look like with air time, LOL.

but you have n  bumper!!! thats the only part I had to trim.

I have heard of some lift springs that are also VERY hard. They lose a lot of articulation and ruin the off road performance. I have nothing against a good set of lift springs I would just recommend that you get a few opinions from other owners before you decide on any particular brand. Don't forget to budget for longer shocks and possibly brake lines too.

Edit: and some new hardware also, the bolts through the chassis rails can be impossible to get out intact.
