Performance chips?
« on: December 14, 2009, 05:57:19 PM »
I haven't heard many good things about these "chips" on the market, how they screw with your computer, basically, and don't really "add" any power...
but what about these?  SLR Performance Chips?

Given that my Tracker only made like 88 HP from factory I'm thinking that 50 more might do some damage.  Yeah right like I would ever get 50 more from a chip. But really man how could you get that much more power and get better MPG?  The energy has to come from somewhere and gas engines are just not that efficient.

Oh and one other thing about that particular chip.  They have it listed as a 90-97 but 94/95 Suzuki went to a different engine so I'm not sure how one chip could work for two very different engines.  Sound like the magnets on the fuel lines for greater MPG BS to me.

Oh and then theres this thread I found as the third listing on Google when searching for SLR motorsports.

Well I didn't research it at all but it didn't sound right either I was wondering if anyone else had paid $69 for it!  Cause it's another one of those neat-looking things that are just a few wires soldered together behind a plastic cover.  Kinda ridiculous.
...and 50hp?  NAW!  But I was looking and that advertisement is the same, word-for-word, as all their other "chips", so it's a generic ad...should say "as much as 50hp" on certain apps to be correct...

Total scam.

My Zuk ECU is chipped, it gives a couple of extra horsepower and is a lot more responsive. Late 8V UK models have external EPROMS, most US models have Masked ROM or One Time Programmeable chips that need to be replaced with a daughterboard.

Hey Rhinoman, I know we've talked a bit about this before, but have you tried working with any of the 16v ecu's yet? I'd still like to send you one of mine to look into modifing for use with my turbo.

Which one do you have? A pic of the circuit board would be good, there are a couple of different types of processor. I've got a few projects on the go at the moment, I'm about to look at a V6 GV ECU to hack it for running a supercharger.
