Ok Guys don't yell at me to much for this. But a friend of mine just gave me a 2001 Geo LSI. Is that a 2.0 16 valve Zuki power plant in there? It sure looks like my 95 1.6 except for the weird looking intake (round). And it says 16 valve on the belt cover too. Problem is that she was driving it and it just plain quit she said. It cranks, gets fuel and has 165 lb comp. I'm thinking rubber band jumped a tooth. Any ideas?

Do you have any spark?  What are you using to determine it is getting fuel?

Ya, you need to do the tests, so far you have the compression, and you
need to verify the spark and then fuel.

An easy test for spark is a shot of starting fluid down the intake, if it tries
to start it's the fuel, if it doesn't try it's the spark or it could be the timing
belt is broken or trashed.

Check it out and report back

It could have the 1.6 or the 2.0.  Look at the sticker on the underside of the hood, it should make a reference to what engine it has.
The 1.6 has a timing belt.
The 2.0 has a timing chain.
If it just quit without making a sound, and it has the 1.6, then it could be a timing belt.  If it has the 2.0, and didn't make any unusual sounds, I doubt it is the timing chain....they are usually pretty catastrophic when they come apart.
An easy way to check to see if the timing belt is intact is to pull the distributor cap off and turn the engine over....if the rotor moves, then the timing belt is intact.

Sounds like the later model G16 - the J20A doesn't say 16V on the belt cover (it doesn't have a belt cover), and that one has four coil packs, one per plug.

A couple of pictures would most likely solve your engine id question instantly.

Glad you could get them to load up. I thought they might have been too large a file. But now can anyone shed some light if it is the late model 1.6G?

That would be a G13BB - 16v SOHC 1.3 litre.

Don't mind me - you're entitled to your opinion - and if I'm right, you're making the same mistake I did when I read the original post - a 2001 Geo LSI could have either a J20A 2.0 or a G16B 1.6 - when I saw the pictures I recognized my mistake - they show a transverse mounted engine - so that is NOT a Tracker, it's a Metro either a sedan or a hatch.

There's a very easy way to find out - the pictures show a transverse mounted engine - with the transmission on the left side of the car, look at the block  just above the transmission and see if there is a raised casting that says G13 - or - the engine number can be found low down on the front of the block alongside the bellhousing - see what the first few characters say - my guess is G13...

That's why I said don't yell to much. Yes it is a Geo Metro LSI 4 dr. I'll check that spot you mentioned when I get home from work tomorrow.
