Hey Guys, my name is Steven Rossi. I've got a '93 Sidekick with ABSOLUTLY no features.

No AC. No Power Steering. No Power Locks. No Power Windows...NOTHING...the only cool thing that it has is a cool alarm that doesnt seem to do much. Anyhow...I just recently aquired a Black Hardtop for the beast for a great deal...$150Canadian! Anyway...The engines a little rough and I want to get a remote starter...1st question!

. . .  can I add a remote starter without having problems with the Security system?

next thing that'll bug me is having *2* key chain remotes, I want to have ONE that arms and disarms as welll as activates the Starter for 5-10 minutes...as well as locks and unlocks the doors with the NON EXSISTANT power door lock actuators.

Question #2

How hard is it to mount Generic power door lock actuators inside the door?, still making it usable with alarms? Is it easiest to use the Sidekick system or can I just put any (generic) actuators in the doors and wire them to a switch and the fusebox and still have it compatable to my dreams of remote unlock and remote starting system...without RELAYS and all that other funky stuff.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You probably will not be able to make both of them work together (same remote etc.) Plus you said that it did not do much any way. You will be better off to but an all in one, remote start, keyless entry and alarm, and just trash the old one. The actuators will not be to hard to install, all of the push rods in the door are easily accessed and a generic one will work fine for what you are trying to accomplish.

I'm not sure if you mentioned if you have an automatic or a manual tranny (I'm assuming a stick shift)  IF that's the case I think you have to work a way around the clutch safety switch in order for it to work.  I think that there is  a way, but not sure, if I can find out I'll let you know.         Dave

Cool guys, thanks for the info soo far. You are all totally right with your suggestions. I should just get one of those ALL in ONE kits for my car.  First i'd install the power lock kit, then i'd install the all in one security system and then...I'd go heated seats!  

...and perhaps power steering

The Factory Service Manual can be purchased for your Sidekick from almost all of the aftermarket vendors. It is very valuable and way less expensive than the Samurai FSM.

 Yeah, your right, definitely dangerous, I know for myself I live on a hill (well, the driveway is) I NEVER just trust a parking brake, as for the illegal part, I never even thought of it, but it would make sense.  I just make do freezing my butt off first thing in the AM and getting my Tracker fired up the old fashioned way  Take care,  Dave

I know it is in Tennessee, due to a few people forgeting to put their trans in neutral, hitting the remote start and off goes their ride
