Silly Snorkle question

For all you running snorkles,  Question: Does high speed driving in heavy rain ( or any rain for that matter) cause any problems with water entering the snorkle? I haven't checked but I imagine like any good airbox design The Suzuki / Trackick airbox has a drain. Please elaborate on your snorkle experience.

The airbox on my Vit has a small drain hole in the bottom. I have sealed this up with silicon sealant to prevent water entering through it in deep water. The Safari snorkel is designed so that rain entering the head runs out down the outside of the pipe. Some water will still enter the box but this does not cause a problem and will evaporate.

 :) Thanks Rhinoman, I recently installed a Safari Snorkle and it seems to be of very good quality and sound design. I think I'll go out and seal that drain hole as well. NOT looking forward to testing it, it's really there for those unexpected DEEP crossings. Like the kind I dropped into a few weeks ago where my winch was submerged and my hood had muddy water splashing over it! When I took the stock intake tubes apart to install the snorkle, I noticed they had a dried muddy film inside! That was too close for comfort.

check into outer wears, they have a material that will let air pass through it but not water, it goes over your air filter element.

I have a Safari Snorkle and didn't like the way it mated up with the stock intake system.  Sure enough, when I went to clean the air filter this year, there was muddy water streaks all the way into the motor.

It doesn't seem to have hurt anything, but I went to Home Depot Got some 2" PVC pipe and some nice rubber conecters. 

I cut a little off of the tube going through the fender and used a nice 2" rubber 90 elbo into the pvc that I then conected to the airbox with the rubber conecter.

It will not leak now!

Yeah, I ended up installing mine twice because I didn't have 100% confidence in the connection as well. The second time around I refit all the pieces carefully, and checked all the connections before I siliconed all the junctions. Now it's a good solid fit. They could have made the tube going thru the fender about an inch longer imo.

Did you get the right one? There are two versions, one comes through the fender around 1" more than the other. I got the wrong one and had to make up an adapter. My Vit is a late 8V (year 2000), its a bit of a parts bin special and it took about 5 years for Santana to release any parts info. Thats my excuse anyway  ;D

Not sure what model it was for, I bought it off another member on this site. I did ask and check the Safari info, and it only listed up to 94, and mines a 95 16v. It was such a close fit that all I really had to do was make sure it didn't slip around when bolting it down. If I do have any future problems  it looks like it would be a simple matter to replace the airbox tube with some leftover 2" and an elbow from my turbo build.

Hey bentparts, glad to hear your liking the snorkel. I bought it off of Hotrod, not real sure what year his tracker is though.
