What do you think I could get for my '90?
« on: January 28, 2006, 07:03:37 PM »
Okay, I'm about to the point where I need to either figure it out and get it running or just be rid of the damn thing.  It's sucked up way to much of my money, I still haven't fixed the Ranger or the GV, school started 2 weeks ago, and frankly I'm a bit past disallusioned with it. :-[

90 Tracker 2 door convertible
-91ish 1.6L 8V
-4x4 with manual hubs
-5 speed stick
-drove great when I had it running
-decent tread on the 205/70R15 AT tires
-surface rust in all the usual areas but nothing bad, the body is actually pretty damn solid for a 16 year -old Michigan vehicle, just a few SMALL holes in the rear floorboards.
-gutted the interior to get rid of the stinky carpet and rattling rear seat
-removed the front and rear bumper covers and rocker fascia
-No options, plane jane beater.  Least that's what I was hoping for.

Smoking from coolant.  Has a new head, new top end gaskets, new head bolts, PCV valve, new cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.  I might fix the passenger side window, right now it's damn tight going up, almost impossible.  At least it stays up though.  Oh, and the new soft top.  I just can't figure out the engine problem by myself, not enough of a mechanic.

How many miles?

Does it coolant smoke all the time? Badly?  Think it might have a cracked block?

Was it doing that before the head change?

Hey Man,

That's my tracker...Just kidding...looks like they are twins..mines got a set of white stripes on doors.I paid $500 for mine needing a clutch.But I owned it twice now.The first time I paid$700 had to fix a lot of stuff.Sold it for $1500.Got it back with bald tires,broken radio face,rear view,muffler bad,leaking oil,no clutch,and torn top,running like crap.hum what a deal...LOL.
Glad it's just a toy and not my DD.You can get what ever someone will pay $500-$1000 may-be.When I sold mine for $1500 it was sweet.Just had about 1"tear in seat, other than that it was very nice, had some rust under it but still looked nice.

I bought my rusty Michigan Track for $600 from a dealer..   Running right, they are going for $600-1200 on Ebay in your condition, but not with the coolant problem...

With the problem, and the condition, I am thinking it's worth $500 or so.... not much more.. but that's just me, I am a tight-wad... LOL

EDIT, with the new soft-top, you might be looking at 600 or a little more.. You could probably part it out on Ebay and get the most for it.. just start taking stuff off and lising it!  Get down to the body and frame, take it to the junk yard for $50.00    Bet you could top a grand for it that way...  I once parted out a V-Max (1989) with a blown engine (spun bearing) and got $4500 for it... lol... I bought it for $3000 and blew it up, needed $2500 in repairs, so I ebayed it, and made a profit.. LOL.

Mine is a 1990 tracker. I bought it for $600 with a blown head gasket and 124000 miles on it. It had been the previous owners prized possesion. It was only driven in the winter, covered up when it wasnt being used, so the paint and the interior are in excellent shape, it had never been   off road or anything, and it had new tires and brakes. The soft top works and has no rips, but the back zipper is temperamental, so I am looking for a hardtop for it. Also, best of all, it is a California car, so it has no rust ;D. So far, I have put about 850 or so dollars into it because I figured it would make more sense to put a JDM motor in it rather than go through the trouble of dealing with the old motor (it had a cracked  head, plus it needed numerous other things such as  a timing belt cover and a water pump.)
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

Do you think you might be able to find a super rusty one with a good engine for cheap? You could have an engine swap in the future....

Man, this is kicking my butt.  An engine swap is WAY out of my league.

What do you guys think I could get for parting the thing out?

Hard to say, but I'd give you some coin for the rear axles, front CV and the manual hubs. The pigs would be worth some $$ also. How far are you from Kent, OH? Maybe make a run this spring and come get the whole thing :)

Traverse City, MI 49684.  Looks like about 450 miles or 7 hours worth of driving.  That said I'll be in the Grand Rapids/Lansing region a few times in the next several months so something several hours and 200 miles closer could likely be worked out if you were interested.
