92 Tracker 4x4: Where To Buy Replacement Center Caps?
« on: December 10, 2008, 09:29:24 PM »
OK, don't laugh. What my husband REALLY wanted for his 50th birthday was a Jeep. Well, times are hard and his birthday is inconveniently located near Christmas. We already have a 92 Tracker 4x4 (not our main source of transportation) in our stable. I did a little hinting around that since we cannot afford a Jeep right now, it might be fun to trick out the Tracker.  He seemed to think that could work, but had no idea that I was secretly planning a couple of upgrades to surprise him with on his birthday.

There is still a lot I would like to do, but time and money do not permit it right now, so I just decided to go with a new convertible top, new wheels and tires.

I bought a set of 5 stock size chrome rims on Ebay and took everything to the shop this evening to have the new tires installed. Since I had previously read some of the posts on here about tire sizes, I went with a little bigger tires 235/75/R15.
Just as I had hoped, they looked much better than the old ones and I didn't notice any problems with rubbing or turning on the 15 mile drive back home.

NOW...there is one little problem. The kid who put the rims/tires on left the center caps on the old rims. I'm not sure why he did this, other than he said they looked kind of ratty, but so do the new chrome wheels with a rusty naked center. He suggested just leaving the caps off and painting the exposed part black like a buddy of his did, but I'm not crazy about that idea.

My question is WHERE CAN I BUY ANY KIND OF REPLACEMENT CENTER CAP (preferably plain chrome) that will not cost an arm and a leg?

I have already looked at several sites online, but nobody has anything in my price range. They all are in the range of $25-$30 each!

There are some used Geo caps available on Ebay right now with a starting bid of .99 each plus shipping, but I am not sure if that's what I want.

Any suggestions?

Any idea what brand of tire they are?  If not, post a pictures and we can probably figure something out.  :)

If you purchased stock rims and/or want the factory GEO replacements call Hawk Strictly Suzuki at 1-888-SAMURAI. They will have what you need, new or used.
