Need Lift by the weekend!!!
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:09:10 PM »
I need some clarity...I am going out this weekend and I need to lift my Sami by then. I was going to get 3" OME springs and HD shackles but have seen posts on reversed YJ springs??? I am looking for the lift that would allow me to go the fastest through the desert,trails,etc... easy trails.
any help is appreciated

Sounds like no lift with stock or maybe 215 tires will be fine. You would be surprised where a stock Sammy will go. Just a lift alone will not raise your ground clearance. For that you need bigger tires and then you lose power unless you change your gears or engine. You also will have to address your steering at some point if you lift it passed 1 1/2 to 2 inches. OME springs are only about 1 1/2" of lift but do improve the ride and will allow a little bigger tire.

I agree with lv2fsh.  I would go with the OME lift springs, keep stock sized shackles and put some 30" tires on the rig and call it good.  Or go with a Calmini Shackle Reversal lift.  With a 4:1 transfer case you should still have enough gearing to zip around on the back roads.

A 2" shackle lift is cheap and easy. I would aslo say to add some longer shocks and you could clear 29-30" tires or evan cheaper some 235/75/15 [28-29"]. I have 235s now and the gearing still works ok and with my 2" shackles longer shocks and a deleted sway bar it works pretty well.

I know that the "Weekend" you were talking about is long gone, but I reluctantly installed an AAL lift on my Sami and have zero complaints now that it is on.

I was worried it would be to stiff, but honestly I can hardly tell. Not because the ride is so smooth now, but because it was already stiff and bouncy before.

I drive my Sami around town and on trails and my back has not screamed at me once.... :)
86 Sami STOCK!! but I just got started.
