my dad was trying to import bikes (motor that is) from england and the only way we could bring them in was used so they would have to put something like 100kms on them and ship them as used. don't know if it is the same for vehicles....but I want one

I heard a rumor that the Jimny's were carbed. If that is the case getting them stateside would be a monumental undertaking. They won't have an OBD II sensor port. No port, No import. Unless it has an OBD port to plug into and be tested you can't import a new vehicle. If it were 20 years old which would classify it as a classic then you could do it. I suppose if you could find someone overseas that could put EFI on it for you ($$$) then I think that getting one stateside is going to be pretty tough.

The article in the New Zealand 4WD mag about it, titled "Full of Surprises" lists it as having "four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, multi-point injection" doesn't look like a carb to me.  
I'll be looking to get one of these once the price is right.  2003-04 models had pretty good specs and they're going for around $NZ13,000 (list $19000).  The new one has lower gear ratios but less ground clearance.

UK models have always been MPI, my GFs is distributorless ignition too. The Jimny name has been in use in the Far East for many years though so maybe they were refering to an earlier model like the Samurai.

In those places the Samurai was named Jimny indeed  ;) I think that's what it is.
